Hymn Along

Privacy

The short version: Hymn Along has no accounts and no ads, and it doesn’t collect anything about who you are. Your hymns, favorites and stats stay on your phone.

What stays on your phone

  • The hymns you’ve played, your favorites and your profile’s counts.
  • Your settings: instrument, sound, tempo and reminder time.
  • The notes you played, for “Hear what you just played”.

None of this is sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes it.

Anonymous usage counts

To learn whether Hymn Along is helping people, the app sends anonymous counts to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service: for example, that a hymn was started or finished, which instrument was used, or that a story was opened. These counts carry no name, email, contacts, location or anything you type. TelemetryDeck replaces your device’s identifier with a scrambled one before it arrives, so the counts can’t be traced back to you.

Playing together

“Play together” asks permission to find a friend’s phone on your local Wi-Fi. The two phones talk to each other directly to start in time and to share the notes each person played. Nothing goes through our servers; we don’t have any.

Duets by link

When you send a duet to a friend, the notes you played and the name you typed travel inside the link you share, through whatever app you send it with. Your friend’s app reads them from the link. They’re never uploaded to us or stored on a server.

Reminders

If you turn on reminders, they’re scheduled on your phone by iOS. They’re off unless you choose them.

Videos

“Watch it” shows performances from YouTube, in its privacy-enhanced mode. When you play one, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that video.

Children

Hymn Along collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
